DURABLE POWER OF ATTORNEY
A Power of Attorney is an instrument by which an individual (known as a principal) gives general or specific authority to another individual (known as the attorney in fact) to act on the principal’s behalf with the same authority that the principal possesses. A Power of Attorney can be used for financial decisions, business transactions, and/or for making health care decisions if the principal becomes incompetent to act on their own behalf. A Power of Attorney is a tool by which the principal can lay out whether or not extraordinary means are to be used to keep him/her alive in the event that the principal cannot articulate his/her wishes. If necessary, a Power of Attorney can be revoked at any time.
